Let’s go to the Circus!

TigersGreat family entertainment!  Where?  Why at the circus, of course.  The Kelly Miller Circus.  This circus was founded in 1938 and is currently celebrating their 75th anniversary.  This writer just attended this event, sponsored by the Pawnee Assembly of God Church in Pawnee, Illinois, October 7, 2013.  The cost of the tickets purchased before the event are only $10.00 for adult and $5.00 for children.

This circus is a great family weekend fun package with free elephant rides, camel rides, pony rides etc.  They performed with their tigers, elephants, llamas, dogs, zebras, clowns, high wire acrobats for an evening of entertainment… and at this price….it hard to beat this great family treat.  Well recommended!  Their next performance will be in Taylorville, IL on October 8, 2013.

If you would like to book this event for your civic club, church, town event etc. you can click on this link to their website:

Who can stand before Him?

We will be examining two sections in Revelation 6 and 7 and Psalm 1 to determine the significance in being able to stand before God.  One may think that this shouldn’t matter that much one way or another, but it does matter.  So let’s start in Revelation 6 and begin to unpack this text.

Revelation 6:17

For the great day of his wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?  If we look at the context just before this verse we read that the 6th seal has just been opened and the Lamb is pouring out His wrath.  People are crying to the mountains in v.16 to fall on them and hide them from the Lamb’s wrath.  Then this great question, “For the great day of his wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?

Revelation 7:9-10

After this I beheld and lo a great multitude which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothes with white robes, and palms in their hands: and cried with a loud voice saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

In this verse we read that all of these people were doing what?  They were able to stand before the throne.  Notice also that these people are clothed with white robes and they have palms in their hands which cause one to remember the pericope in which the Lord Jesus Christ came riding on a white ass and the people welcomed Him as their King.

Revelation 7:11-12

And all the angels stood round about the throne, and the elders and the four beasts and fell before the throne on their faces and worshipped God, saying Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving and honor, and power, and might be unto our God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Here too, we read that the angels are able to stand round about the throne as well.  We are most likely to understand that these angels are wearing white robes as well since other Scriptures describe them in this manner.   These too are worshipping God and bowing before Him.

As we read these verses in Revelation there should be one singular idea that is coming to light about these different sets of people.

Psalm 1:1

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

In this verse we see the antithesis to those that are righteous in Revelation 6 and 7.  Here believers are urged to make sure that they do not stand in the way of sinners.  We also have three verbs describing a lifetime of actions; WALKETH not in the counsel of the ungodly…why?…because this is where a life of sin begins.  Then STANDETH in the way of sinners…which depicts that by this time they are rooted into the way of sinners.  Finally, nor SITTETH in the seat of the scornful…which shows that the person has so deceived themselves that they even scorn those that are righteous.

Psalm 1:5

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

Then in V.5 we have just seen what will happen to those that do that which we just read…the ungodly SHALL NOT STAND in the judgment, nor even shall sinners be found in the same congregation of the righteous

Then in V.6 we read that the Lord

Knoweth the WAY of the righteous…but the WAY           of the ungodly shall perish.

Therefore, we need to make sure that we will be clothed in our white robes…and be able to be counted worthy to be that spotless Bride of the Lord Jesus Christ.
