International Day of Prayer for the persecuted Church, November 11, 2012
Tomorrow, November 11, 2012 is the observance of the International Day of Prayer for the persecuted Church. It also happens to be the observance of Veterans Day here in the United States. But the focus of this article is for the heart-feld needs of the persecuted Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is a fact that the Lord Jesus Christ warned His disciples that they would be treated in the same manner that He was being treated at that moment and throughout time, at least until His return. Let us look at:
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Another verse of Scripture using the same tenor is to be found in:
Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
It should be interesting to note that close to the beginning of the Lord Jesus Christ’s ministry and near the end, the Lord warned His disciples that unbelieving people would hate them and subsequently persecute them without cause. But our response was and is to rejoice because our stand for Christ convicts those that hate the Lord Jesus Christ. We have also been commanded by the Lord Jesus to pray for those who persecute us because of our faith in His completed work on the Cross of Calvary.
Tomorrow many churches will be praying for those Christians who are currently being persecuted around the world and yes, even here in the United States. While not as many incidents as there are overseas, it is still happening here in the land of the free.
If you would like to help or get involved, there is a ministry that was founded by a Christian, Richard Wurmbrand, that endured much personal affliction, torture and imprisonment for his faith; this ministry is called Voices of the Martyrs, and their website is www.persecution.com.
On November 11, 2012 please lay aside a few momemts of your time and pray for our brothers and sisters around the world that are currently suffering persecution in all forms or they are currently suffering in prison for their stand for our Lord Jesus Christ and pray also for those that are inflicting the persecution upon Christians, that they may be converted and saved as well.
